The Center for Effective Lawmaking Is Proud to Present Our New Guidebook for New State Legislators

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Center for Effective Lawmaking (CEL) is pleased to announce the release of our new guidebook, Being An Effective Lawmaker From Day One, a resource designed to help newly elected state legislators become more effective lawmakers from the start of their legislative careers.

Drawing on several years of research, the guide provides practical, research-based strategies for navigating the legislative process and building a foundation for effective lawmaking before legislators begin serving in their state legislatures. It features evidence-based recommendations from the Center for Effective Lawmaking, along with real-world examples from some of the nation’s most effective state lawmakers.

By making this guide readily available to newly elected legislators, CEL aims to equip them with the knowledge and tools they need to navigate the legislative process, build productive relationships, and make meaningful contributions from the outset of their public service.

We welcome opportunities to discuss these insights with newly elected lawmakers, both individually and through larger orientation programming in the states.
